First Visit

At Growing Smiles in Floral Vale, prevention is the center of everything we do! For this reason, it is extremely important that we begin to create a warm, caring relationship with you and your child as early as possible. We agree with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in its recommendation that each child should have a dental home when the first tooth comes in, or no later than 12 months of age. A “dental home” is defined as the ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient, which includes all aspects of oral health care in a comprehensive, family-oriented way.

Dentist for Toddlers in Bucks County

We understand that a one- or two-year-old child may not be very cooperative at the dentist, especially at the first visit. This is not a concern. The doctors will examine your child while your child is on your lap as seen on the right (pre-covid). We  will  introduce  all  of  the  dental  tools  prior  to  starting.  The  technique  is  called  tell-show-do.  This  will  help  acclimate  your  child prior  to  the  start  of  the  exam. Your  child may  cry.  This  is normal.  What  separates  our  office from  most  pediatric  dental  offices  is  that we allot more time for each child and  instead  of getting  a cleaning  with  a toothbrush, your  child  will be  introduced  to  a standard  rubber  cup  and  scalers. This  allows for a far superior exam and cleaning as calculus is very common in young children and can not be removed with a toothbrush. Additionally,  Dr. Ross, and Dr. Radin will provide you with guidance on your brushing technique,  child’s growth and development, eruption of teeth, nutrition, bottle habits, thumb, finger and pacifier habits, trauma,  and much more.

Dr. Radin explains in the video below what children and families can expect at Growing Smiles in Floral Vale:
